The 261 was tended around the clock in preparation of the weekend runs.  A steam pressure of just over 200 pounds was maintained 24 hours a day.

With 261's eight 74" drivers, two 26" by 32" cylinders, and 250 pounds of operating pressure, it can develop 67,521 pounds of tractive effort (over 5,000 horsepower) at theoretical speeds up to 84 miles per hour. The 261 weighs in at a husky 460,000 pounds (not counting the tenders).
